Consent Directives

Consent directives allow patients to control the collection, use and disclosure of their personal health information, within Ontario’s privacy legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks.

The consent directive specification is based on identified Ontario legislation. This ensures consent directives are relevant to Ontario’s marketplace and that they incorporate existing related pan-Canadian and international standards.

The consent directives will be updated based on Ontario legislation and regulations. Ultimately, this specification will enable our delivery partners – ConnectingOntario, Ontario community care access centres, and hospitals – to manage access to their clients’ personal health information.
