The DHDR Wins Award of Excellence
We are happy to announce that the Digital Health Drug Repository (DHDR), which contains information on patients’ dispensed medication history, has received an Ontario Public Service (OPS) Project Excellence Award. This is an amazing achievement that recognizes the value and importance of physicians having real-time access to patients’ dispensed drugs history. This access enables health care providers to make better, more informed decisions; ensuring Ontarians receive the best care possible.
The Project Excellence Award recognizes project teams and individuals across the OPS who have achieved outstanding project results, and demonstrated innovation and collaboration in the area of Project Management.
From the nomination:
“… The DHDR has created a milestone opportunity for health care providers to have integrated and secure access to near real-time information about their patients’ dispensed medication and pharmacy service history at the point of care, enabling them to make more informed decisions. This has facilitated improved collaboration among health care providers, regardless of location, through the sharing of the same clinical information about their patients. It is also through the DHDR that, for the very first time in Ontario, health care providers have access to patients’ dispensed monitored drug information (narcotics and controlled substances), regardless of the payer of monitored drugs. This information is particularly important when making decisions concerning opioid prescribing and access to this information at the point of care is critical. This knowledge, as part of their holistic view of patients’ therapeutic regimens, leads to more appropriate prescribing and monitoring of opioids and other medications for effective pain management. For this reason, the DHDR project is an integral part of the provincial response to the opioid crisis...”
