ONE Network Security Features
ONE Network meets the specific needs of health care in Ontario for network transmission of personal health information. In addition to safeguards which apply to all eHealth Ontario products and services, ONE Network has the following additional safeguards:
ONE Network Enterprise
- eHealth Ontario’s provincial core network used by large health care organizations
- All data travels on a private network set up for the exclusive use of health care, which is protected against threats originating from external networks and is separate from the public Internet
- eHealth Ontario uses only its own equipment, dedicated exclusively for this service, including dedicated optical fibre links, which provide protection against interception or data modification. Where fibre is unavailable, we use IPSec tunnels
- We monitor and manage network traffic using security mechanisms such as routers, switches, network firewalls, intrusion detection systems and anti-virus programs
- All changes are controlled by us and subject to our change management practices
ONE Network Access
- built upon ONE Network Enterprise and reaching all health care providers and small organizations
- ONE Network Access uses third party network providers to reach every location where health care is offered. To maintain security, we have the following security safeguards:
- Automatic encryption of all data on ONE Network Access
- Every site has controls to protect ONE Network from security threats
- We also provide encrypted private communications between client sites (e.g. offices belonging to the same organization in different cities)
Client Responsibility
- Clients are responsible for living privacy and security practices to fully protect personal health information. This includes technical safeguards (e.g. protecting their own network) and following appropriate security practices (e.g. protecting passwords, etc.)
- Clients are responsible for training their users to protect privacy and security when using eHealth Ontario products
- All clients with ONE Network Enterprise equipment on their premises agree to locate it in physically secure environments that are controlled and monitored
