ONE Network Direction and Elibility Criteria

  • Enterprise
  • Access
  • Remote
ONE Network Enterprise is a secure, dedicated, and private network that is scalable to meet the future growth of the health care sector in Ontario. Clients benefit from quality of service, around the clock monitoring as well as incident, change and problem management.

The network is composed of two major components:

  • The Core Network is constructed of dedicated equipment and optical light paths to create a high-speed network that spans the province.
  • Some customer access points use dedicated equipment and fibre that connect the site to the Core Network securely and provides protection against interception or data modification. When dedicated equipment is not used, we use IPSec tunnels to protect the data over any shared networks.

Product offerings:

Provider Edge:

The Provider Edge (PE) network service is designed for large enterprises and data centres where applications and services are hosted. It is used by health sector data centres, regionally shared data repositories and large hospitals. Provider Edge provides superior access to networking technologies and features by enabling connectivity directly to the province-wide core network.

Client Provider Edge:

The Client Provider Edge (CPE) service is designed for health care sites and campuses with large bandwidth, high reliability and advanced feature set requirements. Client Provider Edge is used by hospitals, Local Health Information Networks (LHINs) locations and large CCACs and Public Health Unit (PHU) core sites.

Security safeguards:

  • Automatic encryption of all data from the client  location to the ONE Network Core.
  • Encrypted and private site to site communications between client sites (e.g., offices belonging to the same organization in different cities).
  • Enterprise clients are required to provide their own firewall services.
ONE Network Access is a network service for use by smaller organizations such as Continuing Care facilities, physicians and Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) sites that require high reliability and quality of service.

ONE Network Access Benefits

  • ONE Network Access is a secure and private network that is designed to meet the needs of smaller sites within the health care sector. Clients benefit from firewall management, quality of service, around the clock monitoring, incident, change and problem management to effectively maintain the network.
  • eHealth Ontario leverages commercial networks to deliver the ONE Network Access service and uses IPSec tunnels to protect the data. This provides protection against interception or modification of the data as it traverses the network.

Security safeguards:

  • Automatic encryption of all data from the client location to the ONE Network Core.
  • Firewall security controls to protect against security threats.
  • Encrypted and private site to site communications between client sites (e.g., offices belonging to the same organization in different cities).
ONE Network Remote allows users to securely access resources hosted on ONE Network through the Internet.  There are two products, ONE Network Gateway and rVPN (remote VPN). eHealth Ontario will determine the appropriate remote network access product based on receipt of your application.

If you are planning to load the ONE Network Remote rVPN client on a PC with a 64-bit Operation system please call the Network Deployment Office at 1-866-250-1554 to discuss alternatives.

Benefits of ONE Network Remote rVPN

ONE Network Remote rVPN allows sites using ONE Network Access to securely connect to their office from any location through the Internet. ONE Network Remote rVPN requires a software client to be installed on each user’s computer, and involves authentication directly to the eHealth-provided small office firewall appliance (SOFA) device at the client site.

Benefits of ONE Network Gateway

ONE Network Gateway allows users to securely access applications hosted on eHealth Ontario’s MPN (Managed Private Network) through the Internet. Users may access any application hosted on the MPN with the exception of those sites that have a small office SOFA.

To use ONE Network Gateway, each user must first register and enroll in eHealth Ontario’s ONE ID service and gain permission from the application owner to access their application. For further details on the registration process, visit us at ONE ID then apply for ONE Network Gateway.
